Hello, my name is Andrea of Hula Seventy and I like cameras. Well, and many many other things, including (but not limited to) motherhood, photobooths, movement as art, guerilla art, collages, old school hip hop and red velvet cake. Also, I'm a photographer, writer and occasional modern dance teacher living in Portland, Oregon. I'm married to an illustrator/animator/graffiti writer named Ward and we're the proud parents of two wild, beautiful children. Seriously, they are so rad. But that's another story. Basically, I shoot with whatever I can get my hands on. Film, digital, I love it all. I do not discriminate. I'm a little partial to my Polaroid SX-70 these days though please don't tell the other cameras that. With all the attention I've been giving the SX-70 lately, I think the others might be ready to revolt. I can feel it. Mostly, I love the way the world looks through the lens of a camera, any camera. Also, I like to share. So here I am.
Floral. A hundred different ways to interpret Floral, probably more. To be honest, when I think of floral, I think of of sheet sets from the 70s, vintage dresses, mexican embroidered blouses and pretty trims. I don't really think of actual flowers. At least, not at first. Which is probably a little strange but I think this has everything to do with feelings of nostalgia and an inclination towards a particular familiar aesthetic. This was my jumping off place, friends and here's what I'm sharing with you today:
